The $50.3 million Kosair Children's Medical Center-Brownsboro is a 71,300-square-foot pediatric outpatient center. Its four-stories house a 12,600-square-foot emergency department, a 15,000-square-foot diagnostic imaging area and a 30,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center. The new outpatient center improves access to services specifically geared toward children.
The entire building is designed to help alleviate children's fears. Bright colors and cheerful art throughout the center provide a happy, friendly atmosphere. Children enter the facility through a four-foot tall door just for kids. Oversized treatment areas allow parents to stay with their children, and visual and auditory distractions divert patients' attention during treatments. Other child-friendly features include indoor and outdoor play areas for patients and siblings, lower windows allowing children to see outside, and two interactive "Mine Control" video walls.
The outside of this LEED Silver certified building is equally as kid-friendly, and environmentally-friendly, with vivid colors and sweeping canopies leading to a playground. IMETCO Series 300 metal roofing creates a fun, rolling aesthetic with factory-formed double "S" curved panels on all canopies and the lighted ribbon that streams along the front wall of the building. FW Series wall and soffit panels were used on canopy soffits and penthouse walls.
IMETCO metal roof and wall products contributed to the building's LEED certification with recycled content and regional materials.
